Double Eclipse Interview

As follow up to my  review of their "Freedom To Function" album, I got the chance to throw a few questions Alan and Phill from Double Eclipse's way:

AlanPhill

A little bit of history?
Grew up, discovered rock music, grew our hair, formed a band, toured the UK,  released an E.P, got on the radio, independently recorded and released two studio albums, got on the radio again. :)

Influences?
Very diverse influences, from Hard Rock/Metal to pop and everything in between.  We're mainly inspired by people who do their own thing rather than those who are merely jumping on a bandwagon; artists such as A, The Cult, Marilyn Manson, Alice In Chains, Foreigner, A-ha, Foo Fighters, U2 and The Mad Capsule Markets.  Basically people who have something unique to offer.

All time favourite album or favourite act?
Too many to mention, if we have to name one it would be Whitesnake 87 because that inspired us musically as teenagers and opened our ears to more aggressive music.

Last album you bought?
Phillip:  L.A.M.F - Ambient Metal
Alan:    Linkin Park - Meteora

General info about your album/objectives when starting recording?
To do something fresh, melodic, and honest.

Favourite tracks from your album?
Each song has a great deal behind it so it's hard to choose a favourite.  If we have to choose one though it'd be Chance To Make It Right (it's got us onto mainstream radio here in the UK and opened us up to a much wider audience so it's a special song for the band).

Anything you'd like to change?
The closed minds/ears of some of the rock press.  If you're doing something different/diverse people can't get beyond their initial expectations of what they think the band is or should be about. Don't buy Double Eclipse if you want to hear a Whitesnake tribute album, buy Whitesnake because they do Whitesnake better than anyone else! Musically we wouldn't change a thing.  The albums document where we are at a particular point in time.  We will never make the same album
twice.

Any comments about the Mood Swings review of your album?
Alan:  I don't think the reviewer fully understands where the band is coming from (possibly reading too much into our classic rock influences and the name of the band?).  We know we're doing something new and diverse and we respect the fact that not everybody is going to get it.  We respect that the review is your opinion and there's not a lot we can add to that.

Most amusing/embarrassing musical moment?
Not had one as Double Eclipse...how dull/fortunate is that?!  Ha ha!!

The future?
Evolution baby!!  F2F has been a great leap forward for the band and proved there is room for truly independent music...album III is on its way!
