| Verdict: Pop music with a rock edge that will appeal to fans of people like Tina Arena. | ||
| This one turned up with the Roxbox & Blue Moon Junction albums. Since the Roxbox album was the one that I was mainly interested in I didn't do too much checking up on exactly who the young lady called Jacquie was. I simply put this in the CD player and listened. Imagine The Corrs, Natalie Imbruglia, Fleetwood Mac and Tina Arena thrown into the melting pot and this is what you'd get. Pop music with a rock edge to it. I have to admit that I hadn't even read the liner notes until I sat down to write this review. Then I discovered that the whole affair is written and produced by Marc Engeran and Randy Settoon from Roxbox. Suddenly I see why there is a rock edge to it. Too be honest, I have a lot more respect for the guys in Roxbox after listening to this, as, although I thought the Roxbox album was a good, I'd dismissed them as Journey rip-off merchants. A little more research has shown that Roxbox and Blue Moon Junction, who also help out, both hail from Louisiana, USA which is where Jacquie has also been playing gigs and learning her trade. One of her influences is Sheryl Crow. The opening song is a good uptempo start, which reminds me of Natalie Imbruglia meets The Corrs. Natalie crops up again on "Shy" which I'd describe as Tina Arena meets Natalie. On a few numbers, "Shy" and "Do You Remember?" and "Bad Luck", the rock guitar parts are identifiable as Roxbox. "Do You Remember?" is my favourite tune mainly due to an infectious chorus that works well. Elsewhere, the album is consistent and the aren't any obvious 'fillers' in evidence. Jacquie has created an album that will appeal to fans of people like Tina Arena. A good start to a recording career. It surprised me how much I ended up liking this, as my initial reaction was that it was too poppy for me. | ||
